what happens

We work together to turn your designs into a physical product. Not all designs will work as a cutout, but following general guidelines, most can be successfully made into an awesome wall piece. The process involves getting your drawing into a vector format, fine tuning it for better results and then production. The resulting pieces are then shipped to you so that you can hang them in your studio, sell them to your clients or create a magnificent squirrel fort by stacking them. The pieces truly are yours and you do what ever you want with them, really.

From an already existing drawing or a new one drawn for the purpose, a laser cuts out a shape that follows your design. The piece is then either painted of left natural.

On the back of the piece, a subtle veink logo is also added in an inconspicuous spot. We can add your logo, your name, website, instagram handle, small drawing of your cat. Just let us know before we get into production.

guidelines

– Maximum artwork size: 140cmx90cm (55 in x 35in) (huge)
Important: Think stencil! All pieces must connect with each other.
– Minimum Drawing line width should be kept at 75% of material thickness for best results. thick lines look great! (ex: 6mm MDF = 4mm line)
– Less is (sometimes) more. Highly detailed artwork can be done, but may cost more as it increases the laser cutting time.
– If you are drawing a new piece or modifying one, try to keep in mind the desired final size of the cutout.
– Resizing can easily be done once we have a working file. This means you can offer different sizes of the same artwork!

choosing a material

AKA 1/4inch Medium Density Fiberboard. This material cuts well and takes paint rather well. It is somewhat stable to humidity, but it will swell and breakdown if it gets wet. If you are looking to paint the art a solid color, this is the way to go.

This material has a nice wood grain and is best stained or left natural. It is sanded for smooth appearance and feel or as a prep for painting on or staining. It has a tendency to warp so not recommended for largest pieces. Although we do our best to remove them, there may be some slight burn marks from laser cutting. Plywood has more structural strength than MDF.

Same properties as the 6mm plywood. However, this material is only suitable for smaller designs. It is too thin for much anything larger than 30cm and the contrast/3d effect against the wall is not as effective. On the flip side, it cuts very fast and clean, resulting in cheaper results.

The black paint we use on the MDF is a highly durable water based satin lacquer with ultra low VOCs. It is applied with a fine sprayer to ensure uniform application.
We can stain the Baltic Birch to pretty much any color that you want. Black looks awesome.

pricing

price = file design time + x(cutting time+material) + shipping         x= number of pieces

The cost varies with each piece. It depends on size, design, material, cutting time, finish and quantity. If you are able to provide a suitable vector format file, it is likely to reduce setup time and costs. Keep in mind there is a “soft” minimum order quantity. This means that if only one piece is needed, it can still be made, but the savings are substantial when a few of the same are ordered at once. However don’t feel that you have to purchase a lot to get in touch! We like unique projects too.

On the other hand, if you do wish to order 10 thousand of the same design, it is something we can probably do, but we’d rather not. Lets keep it small and authentic!

Once we have your design on file, we can cut it again as needed for a lower cost than the initial order.

All that being said, we make sure to price our products so that you can sell your wall art at an attractive cost for both you and your customer.

example: On an order of 5 unpainted 6mm MDF pieces of a medium amount of detail, dimension 40x60cm, the cost comes to around 50$/each. The average total shipping cost across Canada is around 30$. Please keep in mind all cases are different and what is cited  here may not be applicable to your project.
